World Languages Day 2018

We have had a wonderful time celebrating World Languages Day again this year at Parkroyal. There was so much going on- here is just a snippet!

Year 5 and 6 had a wonderful morning at Tytherington High School. They learnt either Japanese, Arabic, Spanish or Russian! Some very brave children showed off their newly acquired language skills in front of over 400 children when they came back to our whole school assembly! We are all incredibly impressed! They also learnt about the culture and made some wonderful keepsakes- Fabergé eggs, bookmarks with different scripts and even piñatas!

In year 4 one of our great language expert students taught his class the colours in Polish and the children also enjoyed researching countries of their choice. In year 3 children studied a Benjamin Zephaniah poem and then performed a version of their own! In year 2 the children enjoyed playing playground games that originate from different countries. Year 1 learnt to write their age in four different scripts. In reception the children learnt about where all our food comes from and all the different types of bread. They enjoyed making their own!

Finally have a look at some of the many beautiful language stones the children have made!

Parkroyal is awarded the full International School Award for another three years!

We are very pleased to announce that the British Council have awarded Parkroyal the full International School Award for another three years! We were congratulated on our international work we did last year linking our Year 6s with a school in Mali and our Year 5s with a school in Switzerland. The children really enjoyed learning about these places and people and communicating with children there! Our cultural and language work that all our children do throughout the year also played an important part in getting this award. We look forward to doing lots more!

Sir Ciarán Devane, CEO of the British Council, said: ‘The school’s fantastic international work has rightfully earned it this prestigious award. The International School Award is a great chance for schools to demonstrate the important work they’re doing to bring the world into their classrooms. Embedding an international dimension in children’s education ensures that they are truly global citizens and helps prepare them for successful lives and careers in an increasingly global economy.’

Ugandan bag gardens all planted up!

Year 4 did a smashing job this week planting up our Ugandan bag gardens!  They learnt about the anatomy of plants and how to handle and plant them.  The children took great care planting lots of different plants such as peppers, brassicas and fuscias in suitable places in the bags.  Again they showed great team work and worked really hard.  Well done!

Global Garden Day!

What a wonderful day we have had today! It really was like gardening in Uganda with this heat!  Firstly in our whole school assembly we looked at at Peters Projection Map of the world and then some images of Africa.  Some of the images were not at all what we expected and we were very surprised.

Then Year 4s learnt a gardening method that is about 5 times more effective that the practices we normally use in this country and they learnt about how we can reuse and recycle lots of equipment.  They built 'bag gardens' which should last up to 5 years!

World Languages Day 2017

We have had another fantastic World Languages Day this year at Parkroyal! In assembly we talked about opening our hearts and minds to other cultures and places and talked about the benefits of learning other languages.  We learnt to sing a song in French, Spanish and Italian!  Then Year 5 and 6 went to Tytherington High School for the morning to learn some Russian, Japanese, Arabic and Spanish and they came back with some lovely cultural crafts!  Lots of children have also been learning about the meanings of words for the days of the week in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and even Japanese today!  The children have also looked at where in the world their food comes from and some have written some wonderful poems.  There was even some very cultural dancing in Year 4!

The children painted a flag on their faces, choosing a country which was important for them.

6BU celebrate world languages day

As part of our whole school world languages day both Year 5 and 6 had the pleasure of visiting Tytherington High School. The four classes spent the morning in the languages department learning either: Japanese, Spanish, Russian and Arabic.

6BU spent the morning learning Spanish and making their own versions of the iconic piñata.
