Year 4 did a smashing job this week planting up our Ugandan bag gardens! They learnt about the anatomy of plants and how to handle and plant them. The children took great care planting lots of different plants such as peppers, brassicas and fuscias in suitable places in the bags. Again they showed great team work and worked really hard. Well done!
What a wonderful day we have had today! It really was like gardening in Uganda with this heat! Firstly in our whole school assembly we looked at at Peters Projection Map of the world and then some images of Africa. Some of the images were not at all what we expected and we were very surprised.
Then Year 4s learnt a gardening method that is about 5 times more effective that the practices we normally use in this country and they learnt about how we can reuse and recycle lots of equipment. They built 'bag gardens' which should last up to 5 years!
Year 4 showed amazing team working skills, enthusiasm and hard work all day! They are looking forward to planting the 'bag gardens' up next week.
In French lessons Year 6 have worked really hard to create exciting greeting cards to introduce themselves to their partners in Mali. They now know the name of the partner they are writing to and are very excited to get to know more about them! They have written some great French phrases to tell their partner all about themselves.
Year 2 had a very exciting visit from some students and teachers from All Hallows on World Languages Day. The children loved learning some Spanish and Mandarin! It was a very exciting afternoon!
Year 5 celebrated World Languages Day talking and writing in Arabic and Russian this year, thanks to some expert teachers and students at Tytherington High School. They had a brilliant time learning lots of words and phrases and making bookmarks with Arabic script or Farberge eggs!
Year 4 and 5 had a fantastic time learning Spanish last week as part of our celebrations for World Languages Day. Some expert linguist year 10 and 11 students from Macclesfield Academy came to teach them and the children learnt so much!
We have had another fantastic World Languages Day this year at Parkroyal! In assembly we talked about opening our hearts and minds to other cultures and places and talked about the benefits of learning other languages. We learnt to sing a song in French, Spanish and Italian! Then Year 5 and 6 went to Tytherington High School for the morning to learn some Russian, Japanese, Arabic and Spanish and they came back with some lovely cultural crafts! Lots of children have also been learning about the meanings of words for the days of the week in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and even Japanese today! The children have also looked at where in the world their food comes from and some have written some wonderful poems. There was even some very cultural dancing in Year 4!
As part of our whole school world languages day both Year 5 and 6 had the pleasure of visiting Tytherington High School. The four classes spent the morning in the languages department learning either: Japanese, Spanish, Russian and Arabic.
6BU spent the morning learning Spanish and making their own versions of the iconic piñata.
Buenos Dias todos.
Piñatas are taking shape.
Gracias Tytherington High.
We are delighted to have recently been awarded the Gold Primary Language Mark this term! It has been fantastic to share with experts the work we do in French and to receive some ideas for how we can develop our curriculum even further.
