Exploring world religions

This week has given each class the chance to dig deeper into their RE curriculum, to better understand the cultures and beliefs of people that we see around us.

On Tuesday, we were delighted to welcome Imran Kotwal. Imran led a whole school assembly on the ‘5 pillars of Islam’. He was very knowledgable and the children were extremely engaged.

In Year 2, the children studied the Jewish faith, learning the names of some of the key artefacts for that faith...kippah, tallit, Torah and yad. We talked about Shabbat, the Jewish sabbath, with the help of this stunning ‘challah’ bread kindly made by Flour Water Salt. Thank you so much.

The children talked about celebration for the Jewish faith, and reflected on celebrations in their own life, writing on a balloon or candle explaining why they were important to them.

On Wednesday morning, Rev Andy Williams from the Macclesfield Team Parish, All Saints Church, joined us for a whole school assembly to give his thoughts on some important artefacts for Christians, with his cross, bible and candle.

Yaya really enjoyed her work on a Tuesday, so she drew a mosque and a prayer mat in her own time.

In Year 1, the children learned about weddings and marriage. Rev Andy Williams joined Year 1 to talk about why weddings take place in churches. The Year 1 staff also had the opportunity to recreate a joyous moment when they tried on their own wedding dresses to show the children! As you might spot on one of the photos, the children also wrote a recipe for a marriage.
