On Thursday 29th of June, Year 5 were very lucky to go and watch some of their fellow classmates participate in a public speaking competition. The event was held at Macclesfield Academy and was judged by some of the Academy's staff.
We had two different teams and our topics were: Famous Fails and Advances Through Technology. The teams consisted of Adam Yusuf Short, Yasmin Morgan and Amelie Aldous (Team Technology) and Ben Coldwell, Robyn Laird and Alfie Littlejohns (Team FF).
The Famous Fails team presenting their speech.
The Advances Through Technology team presenting their speech.
After all 10 teams had presented, the judges left for deliberation and make the impossible decision possible. It was a nerve-racking 30 minute wait but finally the results were in... two schools were announced in joint 4th place and then team technology joined them- collecting their prize and certificate. School after school were announced until it was down to the top 3. Team FF had made it. 3rd place were announced... it wasn't Team FF, meaning they were in the top 2! The anticipation built, knees were knocking and the room fell silent. Mr Dethick explained what a tough decision it had been and how every team were worthy winners. Then it came. 2nd place...team Famous Fails. Wow 2nd- what an achievement.
'I really enjoyed myself and although we didn't win, I am still very proud of myself and the team!' said Yasmin after the event.
'I am really happy that we came second and I think that we did come very close to winning!' said Ben one of our main speakers.
