1GH had a brilliant time on their recent trip to Hibel Road Tesco in Macclesfield. They have been learning about all sorts of different fruits during their Handa's Surprise topic and wanted to find out a bit more about where our food comes from.
First, we met Sheena and Jade who were going to show us around. They gave us aprons to wear that said, 'I'm learning where my food comes from'. This meant that other shoppers knew that we were busy learning and exploring.
Then we went to the shop floor to look at different exotic fruits and talk about where they came from.
Looking at a cabbage.
Next, we visited the cheese counter. We tried Cheshire cheese, a smoky cheese and a green sage-flavoured one. Mrs Hunt had to quality-control check them all of course.
We went to the fish counter to meet Fishmonger Dom. He showed us all the different types of fish and even showed us how to fillet one! We took it back to school and Mrs Barber cooked it for us.
A Rainbow Trout
We headed to the tills next to play 'checkout'.
After that, we had a tour round the warehouse and an icy trip into the freezer!
Finally, we went back to the staff room to meet the store manager, Rob. He told us about the shop and let us ask some questions.
We were very lucky and had a fruit pot to try and a goody bag to take home. We'd like to thank Sheena, Jade, Rob and Tesco for having us. Also, we were lucky to have parent helpers to come with us which was fabulous, so thank you to Mr Wall, Mrs Wei and Mrs Yenumula.
Back to school on our coach. Tomorrow we will be writing thank you letters.
