We received our caterpillars on Tuesday 14th June, and put them into individual pots with food. Over the next week or so, the caterpillar went into the chrysalis stage. They were then placed in our net, ready for them to emerge as butterflies.
Over Olympic Week the butterflies have all emerged and 31 butterflies have resided happily on our branches, feasting on nectar and fruit and learning a little of how to fly around.
On Thursday morning, we released them into the woodland area in our playground...one or two needed a little persuasion to go. We were a little sad to see them go but they are now happy in their own environment learning how to feed and stay away from predators!
