Sports news summer term 2017-18
Twenty Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in the Quad Athletics tournament against Ivy Bank and Ash Grove (2 teams). The teams had to work their way around four stations to compete in 50 metre sprint, 400 metre run, howler throw and standing long jump. Each team member competed in each event and scores for each team member counted. Parkroyal A (Y5) finished a very creditable 3rd place with the girls having to run their 50m sprint twice due to a stopwatch fault. Parkroyal B (Y6) romped home to a very impressive 1st place, retaining their winning place from last year's event. There were some outstanding performances on both track and field in particular Noah's awesome 44 metre throw in the howler event - even the Macclesfield Academy staff could not come close! Well done everyone for a fantastic afternoon of sport.
On 21st May eight Y6 pupils took part in the Cheshire Regional Pop Lacrosse final at Wilmslow High School. They won all three of their pool matches against Gawsworth B (3-2), Puss Bank (6-3) and Gorsey Bank (4-1) which took them through to meet Whirley in the semi final; a hard fought game with extra time saw Parkroyal come out on top winning 5-4. They anticipated a tough final against Gawsworth and it was. Both teams played some excellent pop lacrosse with Gawsworth claiming the win 5 goals to 3. A brilliant team performance and some fantastic sportsmanship.
Saturday 28th April was the inaugural Macclesfield Parkrun in South Park and many pupils, parents and staff dusted off their running shoes to take on the somewhat hilly 5k run. It was a fantastic community atmosphere and we hope that many more families (and staff) will be encouraged to join the fun. Anyone wishing to take part should register for free on the Parkun website and then just turn up on Saturday morning at 9am at the bandstand.

10 pupils from Year 6 competed in the annual Macclesfield and District schools swimming gala. Every pupil swam really well in what was an event full of talented swimmers. Mikayla qualified for the finals of the girls breaststroke event. In the final she finished in 5th place- making her the 5th fastest breaststroker in Macclesfield for her age. Each member of our squad received a medal for taking part which they wore with pride.
7/3/18 - 12 hardy Y3/4 boys and girls headed out for the first fixture of the Spring Cross Country calendar at Derby Fields. Competing against 90 boys and 85 girls there were some excellent examples of grit and resilience as the team battled their way round the muddy course. Highest placed Parkroyal pupil was Nikita who finished 19th in her event.
14/3/18 - The Year 5/6 fixture at Derby Fields was a mud bath! Both the girls and boys battled through swamp like conditions against a very strong field of runners. Lucy led the girls race until the final third, finishing a fabulous 2nd place followed by Dot (10) and Yasmin (18). This gave the team 2nd place overall. In the boys race, Hamish was top placed for Parkroyal in 14th place with Freddy (42) and Daniel (43) contributing to the overall team points (99) giving them 10th place out of 18.
21/3/18 - The penultimate race of the season saw another great team performance across all year groups. In the Y3/4 girls race, Nikita romped home in 7th place, contributing to a brilliant 8th place for the team. The Y3/4 boys also had a great race finishing 13th out of 18 schools. The Y5/6 girls once again showcased their talent on the cross country field with a 3rd place, with Lucy (3rd) Dot (16th) and Yasmin (24th) contributing to the points. Last but by no means least were the Y5/6 boys who stormed home to finish an amazing 2nd place overall: top 3 finishers were Noah (7th), Calum (12th) and Hamish (18th).
The 12 highest placed boys and girls in each age group represented Parkroyal at the Championship fixture on Wednesday 28th March. The Y3/4 girls and boys both ran really well against some strong competition in very soggy conditions; due to illness, the girls ran without their previously top placed runner but both teams finished a very creditable 13th place.
The Y5/6 girls and boys, many of whom were running their final cross country race for Parkroyal, gave a magnificent performance with both teams finishing in 2nd place. There was also a battle of a finish for Lucy to achieve an individual 3rd place; an outstanding season for her having finished in the top 3 in every race. A brilliant final team performance of the season = three very proud coaches.
In January, the Parkroyal hockey teams took part in the cluster hockey tournament at Ryleys in Alderley Edge. They had an outstanding tournament, winning 8 matches and drawing 1. This qualified them for the County finals in March.
At the County finals, once again the team played superbly, winning every game in their group to progress to the final. In a very tight match, they just lost out 1-0 to place them in silver position.
The team have had an excellent season this year, playing some brilliant netball and notching up 3 out of 6 league wins, with some very narrow defeats. This gave them a 3rd place finish in the league.
On Saturday 17th March, Parkroyal took part in the Primary School Netball Tournament at Macclesfield Academy. In blizzard conditions, they gave an excellent team performance, successfully winning 3 games, drawing 2 and just losing out to Kings. This gave them 3rd place overall in the tournament, our highest placing for some years.
Well done to all of the team for being excellent ambassadors for Parkroyal.
League matches resumed after the winter break and our first fixture was a tough one away to King’s. Unfortunately, our A team suffered their first defeat of the season 5-1. Ethan scored our only goal and Brayden was awarded man of the match.
Also, our B team (somehow) suffered a 1-0 defeat. Luca was awarded man of the match.
We have other fixtures arranged for this half term: Prestbury AWAY, St Johns HOME and the qualifying round of the Reliance cup.
Three of our Year 5 and 6 pupils attended the School Games Maker conference at Wilmslow High School. They networked with other sports ambassadors learning about delivering outstanding sport in our school. They also listened to a very inspiring speech by Craig Heap, ex-Olympic gymnast.
Sports Hall Athletics
Our budding Year 5/6 athletics team had a great afternoon at the Macclesfield cluster Sportshall Athletics event at Macclesfield Academy. They had loads of fun, there was some brilliant teamwork and outstanding performances to give the team second place overall.
