Preparing pupils for life in modern Britain
At Parkroyal we believe that our school has a key role to play in preparing pupils for life in modern Britain. We recognise that the personal development of every child, spiritually, morally, socially and culturally, plays a significant part in their ability to learn and achieve. We aim to provide a learning experience that provides our children with opportunities to explore and develop their own values and beliefs, spiritual, awareness, high standards of personal behaviour, a positive caring attitude towards others, an understanding of their social and cultural traditions and an appreciation of the diversity and richness of other cultures. Each week we focus on British Values through school assemblies where children from across the whole school can nominate any of their peers who have demonstrated our focus value. You can read about some of the children that have been nominated in out British Values blog.
We are currently in the process of reviewing and updating our policies for the teaching of PSHCE, SMSC, fundamental British values and Sex and Relationships Education. The SLT and governors will be completing a comprehensive audit of our current provision and consulting children, parents and staff before agreeing our direction in these areas.
We encourage the children to be actively involved in the process which has been kicked off with a Whole School Rights and Responsibilities Charter day on 27th February 2017. During this day children across year-groups worked together to agree rights, responsibilities and expected behaviour for different aspect of school life. Over the coming weeks, the draft charters will be shared with the children for their comments before they are adopted by the school.
